What led you to start your nail company?

I have been doing my own acrylic nails for quite some time. I decided to make the switch to press-on nails and purchased them through a couple of online stores. However, I gradually started doing my own at home. During the pandemic, press-on nails became more popular. I‘ve always wanted to share my love of nails but didn‘t believe I had what it took to sell my own designs. I, like many others, lacked confidence in my artistic abilities. Many of my good friends had encouraged me and I finally got the courage to invest in myself. I began to think that “Yes, I could actually create a business.” After a lot of thought and brainstorming, I partnered with Julie Ware, Cherry Bomb Nails was created and is taking off!

March is Shapely’s women’s issue. Shapely is focused on exploring ideas, issues, and solutions that impact them. How does Cherry Bomb Nails consider the needs of plus size people?

We offer all sizes which includes custom sizing. Each person is unique and deserves to have nails that fit and look good, just like our clothing. We can create custom sets that fit all nail beds allowing our customers to be comfortable applying their own nails in the privacy of their home. We know some salons are not plus size friendly with their furnishings and have discriminated against larger and curvier bodies. Inclusion and diversity is extremely important to us and every “body” deserves to be included and have beautiful and fashionable nails.

How would you define your nail style?

My personal style is XXL coffin however, we design all shapes, lengths, and sizes from shorties to Cardi claws and anything in between. We offer nails for every day wear and special occasions.

What are some reasons you would recommend press-on nails?

  1. No appointments required, no travel required or spending hours in a salon.

  2. Easy application that almost anyone can do.

  3. Low maintenance. Press-ons can last from two to three weeks and are sustainable which allow our customers to re-use them for another application.

  4. Press-ons are less damaging to the natural nail.

How has press-on nails evolved for anyone on the fence?

Press-on nails used to be temporary and lasted a few hours or days and extremely thin and flimsy. There wasn’t much of a color selection, and they were simple in design. Usually only offering one style, one or two lengths, and no designs. Today, they are made stronger and to last like acrylic nails and you can choose any color, design, shape, and length. These are amazing for your budget! The acrylic full set can cost anywhere from $50 to $100 and fills can run in the range of $30 to $75 depending on the type of polish and designs you choose. Our press-on nails start at $20.

Cherry Bomb Nails is a women-led company. What does that mean to you and what does it do for you?
