From Scratch to Snatched: Louisiana’s Best Kept Foodie Secret

Biscuits, belly laughs and that lemon curd life: Why Biscuits & Jamz in Louisiana is THAT spot. Let’s start with the truth: we weren’t even looking for Biscuits & Jamz. We were deep in Lake Charles, Louisiana, minding our business, hungry and hopeful — and the foodie gods led us to a brunch experience that blessed our bellies and healed our souls. The reviews were solid, the name was cute, and baby… the lemon curd French toast had me in a chokehold just from the description. So we said “why not?” and pulled up. Spoiler alert: the hype is real.

A Side of Hospitality with Your Hash

As soon as we walked in, we were hit with that small-town Southern charm that makes you wanna hug somebody’s meemaw. And from the smells coming out that kitchen, I’m convinced somebody’s meemaw really WAS in the back cheffing it UP. From the staff to the patrons, everybody was kind, complimentary, and cozy, like we had just walked into a community cookout and everyone was happy we showed up.

Lemon Curd, My Forever Love

Let’s be clear: I am a sucker for a good curd. And this? This wasn’t good. It was criminal. The lemon curd French toast was giving everything it needed to give and then some. Dripping in cream cheese glaze, stuffed like a love letter from the brunch gods, and sauced to perfection. It needed nothing else. I took one bite and my taste buds hit a full eight-count — Beyoncé who?

Oxtail Hash? In Louisiana? We Were Nervous. But Baby…

Both myself and Diana are Jamaican American, so when we saw oxtail hash on the menu, we paused. We side-eyed. We prayed. But let me tell you something… It. Slapped. Tender oxtail. A kiss of Caribbean spice. A savory profile that gave breakfast with a side of culture. It was bold, balanced, and made us believers.

The Full Crew Was Fed and Happy

Dash got the fried pork chop (crispy, juicy, no notes), Driss sipped his hot chocolate with whipped cream like royalty, and I was caffeinated to the heavens thanks to the bottomless coffee served in the cutest little cup that felt straight out of someone’s favorite auntie’s cabinet.

A Plus-Size Friendly Vibe That Hit Different

As a plus-size person, I clock these things IMMEDIATELY:

✔️ No chairs with arms digging into me.

✔️ Plenty of space to move, breathe, and exist.

✔️ No weird stares. Just pure comfort and good energy.

I felt like I belonged. Period.

Affordable AND Delicious? I Thought I Was Being Punk’d.

As a proud New Yorker, I was fully expecting to be robbed at checkout. But the prices were giving “stay a while and order dessert.” Biscuits & Jamz is serving big flavor without the big bill — and in this economy, that’s gospel.

Final Verdict? Put Some Respect on Louisiana’s Name

We left full, joyful, and already plotting our return. Whether you’re plus-size, petite, single, boo’d up, brunch-obsessed or just hungry — Biscuits & Jamz is that girl. She’s cozy. She’s flavorful. And she deserves to be famous. Now It’s Your Turn! Have you ever been to Biscuits & Jamz? What did you order? What would you recommend next time I go back? Drop your foodie faves in the comments — because clearly I’m not done eating my way through the South.
